Reederei Deymann vessel renewal

Concordia Damen has begun a major refit of 'Hirschhorn', a dry cargo vessel operated by Germany’s Reederei Deymann. The project, now underway at the yard in Werkendam, involves the full renewal of the aft ship and aims to underline Damen’s expertise in sustainable fleet renewal as the company reported. The original single-engine, single-shaft configuration will be replaced by a twin-shaft propulsion system powered by two 630 KWE diesel-electric engines. The accommodation and wheelhouse will also be rebuilt.

"This project shows how a well-planned refit can give a reliable vessel a new life," said Bert Duijzer, technical director at Concordia Damen. According to the company the upgrade will extend the vessel’s lifetime, reduce emissions and fuel consumption, and enable operations even in shallow water. (js)
