Reynaert to manage Iata external affairs

Iata has appointed Thomas Reynaert as its senior vice-president for external affairs.

Reynaert will be based in Brussels and will oversee the association’s advocacy, with responsibility for teams in Washington and at Icao. Reynaert was most recently vice-president for government and regulatory affairs in Europe, the Middle East and Africa at IBM. Before that, he led Airlines for Europe (A4E) as its first managing director (2016 -2023), and earlier worked in aerospace at United Technologies.

Iata director general Willie Walsh said Reynaert’s knowledge of aviation, technology and regulation will strengthen the organisation’s engagement with governments worldwide. Commenting on his new role, Reynaert highlighted some priorities, including creating a more effective regulatory environment, supporting the sector’s net-zero target by 2050, and addressing other challenges, including taxation and fragmented standards.
