RZD expands shunting operations

RZD Logistics has introduced a shunting service at Burannaya station in Russia’s Chelyabinsk region, developed jointly with the South Ural Railway aiming to improve logistics efficiency and strengthen services in low-density areas as the company reported. The project, launched in October, provides shunting traction operations for the arrival and departure of wagons on public tracks, supported by a dedicated locomotive operated by RZD Logistics.

The South Ural Railway’s terminal and warehouse management directorate offers cargo unloading on the same tracks and plans to add loading services soon. The locomotive is maintained and equipped on private tracks belonging to the infrastructure owner. The project is currently in testing, with full outsourcing of logistics services planned after evaluation. (js)
