RZDL organizes pilot delivery of 60 m rails to Germany
Russian Railways Logistics (RZDL) recently organized a pilot multimodal delivery of 60 m long rails produced by JSC Evraz Consolidated West Siberian Metallurgical Plant. The cargo had to be forwarded to Germany for Deutsche Bahn.
The RZD Logistics team developed several alternative logistics schemes before selecting the most efficient one. The trial transport service deployed universal rolling stock that runs on the broad 1,520 mm gauge and on the sea ferry between Ust-Luga and the port of Sassnitz (Germany), where the rails were transhipped to standard European gauge wagons.
The rails delivered by RZD Logistics will be tested in Deutsche Bahn's rail welding plant in Seevetal. The successful trial run will encourage large scale shipments of rail cargo from Russia to Germany. (ben)
