SIPG to build new Haifa port
Israel Ports Company has awarded Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) to build and operate a new private port in Haifa. SIPG, the only bidder for the project, will receive a 25 year contract to run the new facility, which is slated to go into service by 2021.
Israeli ports have seen many disruptions, especially due to union actions in past years, and now the facilities are reaching their capacity limits. The move by SIPG illustrates the strengthening ties between China and Israel.
