Sky Lease settles claims

Sky Lease has agreed to pay USD 1,030,000 to settle allegations under the False Claims Act related to the inaccurate reporting of US mail delivery times. The Justice Department revealed this settlement, highlighting that the airfreight company, based in Miami, failed to provide truthful information regarding the transfer of US mail to foreign recipients under contracts with the US Postal Service (USPS). Assistant attorney general Brett A. Shumate emphasised the government's commitment to holding contractors accountable for false claims and ensuring compliance with contracted services.

The USPS had contracted Sky Lease to manage and deliver US mail both domestically and internationally, requiring accurate electronic scans of mail receptacles. The allegations centred on Sky Lease's submission of falsified delivery times, undermining the integrity of the mail delivery process. This resolution stemmed from a collaborative investigation involving the Justice Department's Civil Division and the USPS Office of the Inspector General, aimed at addressing non-compliance and ensuring future accountability.
