«There are many ITS initiatives. In the short term one of the most promising initiatives is the possibility of getting a better view of where and when it is possible for drviers to take rests», said senior consultant Jorn-Henrik Carstens from the trade associations for the Danish transport of goods (ITD) at a Transport Economic Union conference. The digital tachograph is currently going through the EU’s legal machinery. The tachograph will be introduced according to the plan in 2018. Besides controlling the driving and rest time the new tachograph contains a GPS that registers the position of the lorry. (ben)
