Swiss Post: work starts on new regional parcel centre
Swiss Post has started to build a new regional parcel centre in Vétroz, canton Valais (Switzerland). The company plans to construct two more parcel centres in Cadenazzo (Ticino) and Untervaz (Grisons). In future, parcels will be handled directly in their respective regions to shorten transport times and ensure faster processing of parcels from other centres.
In May 2020, Swiss Post will start operations at the second of the three new regional parcel centres: namely at the 25,000 sqm Botza facility in Vétroz. It will have a sorting capacity of 8,000 parcels per hour. The staff and logistics platforms in Bex, Brig, Siders and Sion will all be transferred to the Botza centre.
Ulrich Hurni, CEO of Swiss Post, says: “This investment of over CHF 50 million is highly significant. The direct transport network will relieve the strain on existing parcel centres, and on transport infrastructure throughout Switzerland.” (mw)
