Turkmenistan to implement railway communication project
Huawei, a Chinese information and communications technology solutions provider, is to install its GSM-R solution on the 133 km long Buzhun-Serehtyaka and 23 km long Bereket-Cilmammet railway lines in Turkmenistan. The company landed the contract following its successful implementation of GSM-R technologies on Turkmenistan’s east-west railway line and on the Cilmammet-Buzhun stretch of track on the north-south line in 2012.
Turkmenistan’s north-south railway line is currently under construction and will link Kazakhstan with Iran. Turkmenistan, with a total of 3,600 km of railway lines, has long been an important transportation hub at the heart of Eurasia. However, the country’s rail transport capacity has been greatly hindered by outdated and aging communications systems. (ben)
