Zipline establishing distribution centres in Ghana

Today (24 April 2019), the California-based drone manufacturer Zipline is launching its drone delivery service in Ghana. The government of the West African country approved the use of Zipline's drone technology in 2018 to deliver essential drugs and blood to rural areas in the country. The USD 12.5 million contract is to enable health essentials to be accessed in deprived areas.

At full operations, Fly Zipline expects to operate more than 150 flights per day from each of its four nationwide distribution centres, spanning from the dense southern regions surrounding Ghana's capital, Accra, to the remote and arid north of the country.

Fly Zipline launched a similar service in Rwanda in 2016 to improve public health delivery in that Central African country. (ah)
