Heavylift / Breakbulk
Huge maritime power station
Parts for 87 wind power plants are being held in interim storage in Belfast by the heavylift logistician Schmidbauer, before the firm loads them onto a ship. They are destined for a wind farm west of Blackpool in the Irish Sea that is due to go on stream in 2018.
Wind power in its sails
The debate concerning alternative sources of energy has not yet abated. Crane-maker Liebherr is nevertheless banking on wind energy, amongst other things. It won a contract to supply the heavylift crane for the wind-farm installation vessel “Orion”.
Multimodal cultural undertaking
The German forwarding enterprise Robert Kukla recently united two old heaps of scrap metal. A ship that used to take tourists out on a Bavarian lake is now set to become a café and theatre, perched on a disused railway bridge in Munich.
As crucial as a hinge
A ship unloader is a very large piece of equipment, but nevertheless also rather finicky. Royal Cargo recently fitted such a giant with a new hinge in the Philippines.
Blue Water Shipping recently transported some of the longest wind turbine blades in the world. The project saw the line’s new joint venture with Breb in action for the first time.
Establish and maintain
Special excavator and cranes are needed to build and maintain national infrastructure, be it in Egypt or Switzerland. The multifarious undertakings involved can be the building of a road tunnel, or the cleaning of filter grilles in a hydroelectric power station.
Adding fuel to the flame
Recently, some hot news made the headlines. Various respectable sources, both from the general media and our industry, claimed that the US Geological Survey (USGS) had made the largest oil and gas discovery in the United States ever.
