In and out of Hamburg and Lübeck

Trans-Trading Hamburg, a member of the XLP network, recently shipped some locomotives from Bavaria to Finland via Lübeck. In January it had already handled three oversized turbines in Hamburg. The devil is often in the detail.

Two heavylift transport tasks were recently carried out by Trans-Trading, a member of the XLP network. It dispatched three turbines to Taiwan in January; each one measured 9.05 x 3.3 x 3.34 m and weighed in at 117 t. The units were loaded on to the Taipei Triumph at the CTB / Burchardkai in
Hamburg. Before these steps could be completed, however the firm had coordinated the activities of the inland barge operator, terminal, shipping line, customs authorities and of the technical experts draughted in for the task.

A floating crane for the transfer
The direct transfer of the units from the barge to the maritime vessel, using an HHLA floating crane, was the heart of the operation. The handling of the three turbines went as planned and after the load had been checked the ship left Hamburg on time on its journey to the port of Kaohsiung (Taiwan).
A well-known German industrial firm has entrusted Trans-Trading Hamburg with a long-term order. 36 Vectron locomotives of the VR Sr3 type have already been delivered.

Each one measures 19.04 x 3.05 x 4.44 m and weighs 90 t. The locomotives made their way from Munich to the Seelandkai terminal in Lübeck (northern Germany) under their own steam on the railtracks; there they were transferred to Transfennica ferries for the leg to Hanko (Finland). The contract will see 80 locomotives delivered between 2016 and 2026.
