Lamprell Energy continues to bank on Blue Water Shipping

Lamprell, a leading corporation in the field of diversified engineering and contracting services that serves the onshore and offshore oil and gas industries as well as the renewable energy sector, is again banking on the shipping and logistics group Blue Water Shipping as its logistics partner.

Following the successful delivery of EDC’s Neptune jack-up rig from the United Arab Emirates to Russia in 2012, Lamprell Energy has again selected the Esbjerg-based Danish shipping and logistics group Blue Water Shipping as its preferred transport partner to deliver a
LeTourneau S116E jack-up rig from the Hamriyah yard to Russia.

Decades of experience
Kevin Isles, Lamprell Energy’s executive vice-president, pointed out that his company «selected Blue Water Shipping due to its competitive bid, but more importantly also due to its many years of experience with large projects in the Caspian Sea area, including the transportation of rigs and other large modules.»
The latest contract will cover the transportation of a dismantled jack-up rig from Hamriyah via the Volga-Don river system to a yard in Russia. The transport task covers four partshipments and will commence in summer 2013, and is expected to be completed in spring 2014. The project will exceed 100,000 cbm overall and will see lifts of up to 1,000 t and modules of up to 17.35 m passing along the Volga-Don River. This is the second jackup rig which Lamprell is building for the Eurasia Drilling Company (EDC), the largest independent drilling  company in Russia.
With this new rig, EDC intends to further expand its offshore drilling activities in the Caspian Sea. Limitations of the river system’s locks Blue Water Shipping is pleased that both Lamprell Energy and the Eurasia Drilling Company have placed their trust in BWS.
Over the years, Blue Water Shipping has become one of the players that is most frequently called upon to transport giant and hence rather unwieldy constructions to the Caspian Sea through the Russian river system.
Some of the consignments handled by BWS have been drilling platforms and floating storage offloading units (FSOs), special tank vessels for the storage of oil at sea. Platforms and FSOs are built in shipyards outside the Caspian Sea region.
Due to the limited breadth and draught of the river system’s locks, the platforms have to be separated into smaller sections, and then re-assembled upon arrival in the Caspian Sea.
