Good base for business in the Middle East and North Africa. Not every corner of the Middle East is on fire, as is evidenced by the founding in Egypt of EFG Logistics Services, a subsidiary of Germany’s EMS-Fehn Group. A number of players anticipate good market opportunities in the region. EFG also offers project logistics.
The firm EFG Logistics Services (EFGLS) in Egypt represents a new approach for 2024 in the Middle East. The EMS-Fehn Group, which is based in the German town of Leer, in East Frisia in the northern state of Lower Saxony, is bucking the latest trends by founding a subsidiary in Egypt.
EFGLS’s team is headquartered in the Egyptian capital Cairo and led by Tamer Sherif, a professional with 25 years of experience in the industry. EFGLS specialises in serving customers in North Africa and the Middle East, with a spectrum of offerings that ranges from sea, road and air transport to project logistics.
The poor business climate these days doesn’t worry Dominic Sleur, the manager in the EMS-Fehn Group who’s in charge of EFGLS’s operations. “We’re convinced that the region offers a great potential for further growth.” The firm expects positive developments outside of the Middle East’s trouble spots. On top of this it has plenty of regional market experience as well as networks. “We’ve already served clients from various industries in the Middle East and North Africa for decades.”
EFG Logistics Services is already implementing its first major order in the region, together with some of the group’s sister companies. The team from Cairo is managing a large part of the logistics for the construction of a plant for the production of wood fibreboard.
The facility, which the three firms Andritz Dieffenbacher, Weser and MT Mixers are building for the Egyptian defence ministry’s National Service Projects Organization (NSPO), is being built in the Toshka region of southern Egypt. It is scheduled to produce its first panels from autumn 2025 onwards. Its HDF and MDF fibreboards are made from date palm fronds, which otherwise aren’t considered usable.
