Winches to China

In December a number of large winches were transported from one Asian country to another.

The shipments departed from the Thai port of Laem Chabang, the largest international deepsea hub in the Gulf of Thailand, and were destined for a special economic zone located in Zhuhai (China). The city is located on the border with the special administrative region Macau.

The Thailand office of Thoresen Shipping and Logistics (TSL) was in charge of transporting the heavy load, though overall responsibility lay with the French Naxco Group as the general contractor. The heaviest hydraulic winch unit, each of which was worth USD 1.5 million, weighed 64.5 t.

The consignment originated from Thailand, was transhipped in Hong Kong and taken to Doumen, a district of the city of Zhuhai, by motorised freight vessel. It arrived at its destination port just before the turn of the year, on 29 December. Two cranes, each with a lifting capacity of 200 t, raised the shipment in tandem from the cargo vessels onto the transport vehicle on the shore. The oversized load was handed over to the recipient there without any problems.   cd
