12,000 HP move 6,000 t at 120 km/h

Indian Railways has received its 100th electric locomotive manufactured by Alstom. As part of the EUR 3.5 billion contract won in 2015, the manufacturer will be supplying 800 fully electric high-powered double-section locomotives of 12,000 HP (9 MW) for freight service, capable of hauling around 6,000 t at a top speed of 120 km/h.

With the first Prima T8 WAG-12B inducted for commercial service in May 2020, these locomotives are transforming India’s heavy freight transport industry. Deployed for operations on major freight routes, including the country’s dedicated freight corridors, the Prima T8 WAG-12B e-locos have already travelled close to 5 million km hauling a wide range of commodities.
