China invested CNY 710.9 billion (EUR 97.5 billion) in railway fixed assets in 2022, building and putting 4,100 km new rail tracks into service, including 2,082 km of high-speed routes.

By the end of 2022, the country had 155,000 km rail tracks in operation, 42,000 km of which are high speed routes, China Railways said.

3,000 km new rail tracks are planned for 2023, including 2,500 km high-speed routes. The projects will focus on linking, upgrading, and enhancing the railway network. One of the key projects will be the upgrade of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway. (ben)
