450,000 vehicle rail hub launched
India’s largest in-plant railway siding for automobiles was recently inaugurated at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar facility. Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini joined the event.
The site can dispatch 450,000 vehicles annually and aims to avoid 175,000 t of CO₂e emissions and save 60 million litres of fuel. Developed under the 'PM GatiShakti Master Plan', the siding is part of the 126 km ‘Haryana orbital rail corridor’ and executed by joint venture Haryana Orbital Rail Corporation.
Maruti Suzuki aims to dispatch 35% of all vehicle by rail by FY 2030–31, according to Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited. (js)
