A heavylift premiere for the STB 320
TII Scheuerle’s new STB 320 side girder bridge successfully completed its maiden voyage recently when it transported a 285 t transformer for grid operator TransnetBW.
The modular vehicle, developed jointly with TII Scheuerle’s long-time partner and heavylift specialist Kübler Spedition, tackled a complex 10 km route from Offenburg freight yard to a nearby electricity substation.
The STB 320 was designed specifically for heavy-duty transformer logistics, with its low-weight bridge ensuring safe transit, even when crossing sensitive structures, such as the 80 m Kinzig bridge in the task under review. Its hydraulic lifting arms and flexible axle configuration enable precise manoeuvring through tight urban areas.
The transformer was positioned on its foundation without additional lifting equipment, thanks to the STB 320’s integrated hydraulic system.
This latest project executed by the forwarder Kübler-Spedition demonstrated how advanced transport solutions can support the energy transition by meeting the demands of infrastructure upgrades. (gy)
