A neutral agent in the market
The three European transport and logistics companies Bertschi, Hoyer and the De Rijke Group recently established a new joint venture, founding an independent fourth-party logistics service provider (4PL). All three corporations are also specialists in the chemicals logistics fields, amongst other things.
The portfolio of the new firm – called Log4Chem – encompasses the full range of logistics services, including the coordination and transportation of liquid and solid materials. Log4Chem will not have its own transport equipment or other assets, but will act as a neutral agent between clients and service providers. The partners hope to generate a transport volume worth approximately EUR 200 million in the coming years, by consolidating their activities in the chemicals logistics sector.
More efficient supply chains
The new entity’s focus will be on improving the efficiency of the supply chain, for example by avoiding empty return journeys and by making use of sustainable intermodal transport solutions. The optimisation of logistics processes will naturally be carried out in line with individual companies’ operational requirements. The joint venture will market, coordinate and optimise all of the new 4PL transport activities of its three owners. This will particularly affect transport and logistics services for the chemical industry in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Log4Chem will seek to become a market leader in these regions.
