A new green initiative at Port of Gothenburg

The Port of Gothenburg, Scandinavia’s largest port, is looking forward to a great change in its environmental policy. Starting on 1 March 2023, the terminal operator APM Terminals will grant priority passage and handling for electric trucks on the way through the port’s Gate 4 towards the container terminal.

Many haulage firms have already been converting their fleets to electric vehicles: for Martin Adeteg, vice president decarbonisation, health, and safety at the Gothenburg Port Authority, it will “pave the way for transition.”

It is an initiative that first and foremost helps the climate, but also supports business: Skaraslättens Transport, Sweden’s biggest transporter of containers on the roads, recently deployed three electrified vehicles in flows to and from the container terminal.

The company’s chief commercial officer, Johan Söderström, says that, with the priority status, the Skarasplättens Transport “can perform more assignments every day, which benefits both us and our customers.” (lh)
