A new way to operate an intermodal yard

Gaining a foothold in the US market is not always the easiest of things. The Austrian company Kuenz has successfully entered the US RTG market, since Norfolk Southern Railway has ordered six Kuenz Freeriders - 11 wide and 1 over 4. The cranes will be located at the Austell, Georgia facility.

Although the cranes will be delivered for manual operation, with minor adjustments they will be ready for automation. With a wide travel gauge of 35.5 m and the capability of gantry travel at maximum speed while fully loaded, the Kuenz Freerider crane opens up a new way to operate an intermodal yard.

The provider is certain that the deployment will increase productivity and safety and reduce operation costs, which will offer Norfolk Southern's terminal operators a completely new kind of flexibility. (ben)
