A step towards zero GHG by 2050

Union Pacific Railroad (UP) is en route to achieving net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. The US class I railways recently presented its first comprehensive climate action plan. It includes measures to improve operational efficiency and minimise fuel consumption with a more efficient locomotive fleet and energy management technology.

The company also intends to promote rail as the environmentally preferable surface transportation solution and explore emerging supply chain circularity opportunities.

Furthermore, UP plans to decarbonise its environmental footprint by increasing the use of low-carbon fuels and innovating with alternative propulsion methods and nature-based solutions. (ben)
