ACL switches terminals

Atlantic Container Line is on the verge of changing the terminals for its A-service vessels in the port of Virginia, USA. The transfer of vessel operations from the Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT) to Norfolk International Terminal (NIT) will take place in mid-September 2019.

In recent weeks ACL has been docking at both the PMT and NIT facilities in Virginia, working the ro/ro cargoes at the PMT facility and handling container traffic at NIT. Because of mechanical issues with two container cranes at PMT ACL was obliged to temporarily split its operations between the two terminals.

Effective with the arrival of the “Atlantic Sea”, (ETA 15 September), the ACL A-service vessels will only call at NIT for ro/ro and lo/lo operations. The “Atlantic Sun”, (ETA 10 September) will be the last vessel to call at both PMT and NIT for vessel operations.

ACL has recommended to its US export customers using merchant rail carriage to bear in mind the upcoming terminal changes when placing transport orders with intermodal rail providers. (fd)
