Aid for UK cargo capacity on ferry routes

To keep cargo flows around the isles flowing, the British government has introduced a support package throughout the pandemic. The means employed for those routes considered to be "essential freight services" amount to GBP 17 million (EUR 21 million).

Besides the domestic connections between Northern Ireland, the Isle of Wight and the Scilly Isles, the package includes further support for no fewer than 26 routes between Britain, France, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Norway and Sweden.

The Eurotunnel also receives funding. The British department of transport spoke of “up to 31 routes eligible for support, subject to discussions with operators." (mw)
