Air cargo ambitions on the Bahamas

Preliminary works on the USD 170 million Grand Bahama International Airport are expected to begin by the end of March. In February, the government signed an agreement to this effect with the Bahamian company Aerodrome Limited, Manchester Airport Group and London-based BHM Construction International.

Completed by April 2025, phase one of the project will set up air freight facilities. Phase two is expected to get off the ground within two years of the commencement of Phase one and will provide an expanded heavy lift air freight cargo centre.

Chester Cooper, deputy prime minister and minister of tourism, investments, and aviation: "The construction of the cargo zone is expected to commence within three years. Its business will create approximately 50 permanent new jobs each year for a minimum of ten years." (ah)
