Air freight not yet recovered, but buoyant

While the passenger business at Basel-Mulhouse Airport, which will celebrate its 75th anniversary next year, is recovering noticeably, freight volumes are likely to fall for the second year in a row, dropping to around 111,000 t this year.

Airport director Matthias Suhr provided this and other information at the Third Forum of the Basel-Mulhouse section of IG Air Cargo Switzerland, which was again well attended yesterday, 29 November 2023.

Other speakers placed the airport in the overall logistics landscape of the border triangle where Switzerland, France, and Germany converge, reported on a new cargo handling project in the freight terminal and presented solutions for the shortage of skilled labour.

Looking beyond freight transport, but fittingly for the end of the year, Constanze Hacker raised awareness of the Mercy Ships initiative in German-speaking Switzerland. (ah)
