Gruber logistics has completed the transport of a decommissioned Airbus A310 from Hanover Airport to the Serengeti Park in Hodenhagen, Lower Saxony. The 110 t aircraft fuselage and components were moved over three consecutive nights between 26 and 29 October 2025 along a 51 km route that crossed a protected nature reserve. The heavy transport specialists reported it took environmental precautions, securing trees and working with arborists from Arboristica to prevent damage.
The route, planned over several years, required temporary removal of traffic signs and lighting systems. Two 8x4 tractor units from Universal transport’s fleet, combined with a modular axle trailer, were used to manoeuvre the 64.4 m long and 6.1 m wide load. "Working together with the drivers, preparing the route and liaising closely with our client Serengeti Park, we have now successfully completed this challenging project," said Michael Gruber, managing director of Gruber logistics Germany. The aircraft will open as a restaurant in summer 2026. (js)
