Airfreight stable despite headwinds – Iata

At its AGM on 1 June in New Delhi (India), Iata forecast stable airfreight volumes for 2025, projecting 69 million t (+0.6% vs 2024).

Cargo revenues are expected to decline by 4.7% to USD 142 billion, due to weaker GDP growth and lower yields (–5.2%). Trade tensions and economic uncertainty continue to weigh on demand. Yet recent data shows resilience, with April volumes up 5.8% year-on-year.

Lower jet fuel prices (–13%) will ease cost pressures, but persistent supply chain disruptions and engine issues will limit fleet efficiency. Iata expects total industry profits to rise to USD 36 billion, noting that air cargo remains a key contributor, despite margin erosion. (ah)
