ANA gains green light; honours heritage

ANA Holdings has received conditional approval from China’s market regulator to acquire Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA), clearing the last major hurdle for the deal.

The merger was delayed eight times but is now set to be completed on 1 August, transferring NCA from NYK Line to ANA. Conditions include fair-handling agreements at Tokyo Narita and Osaka Kansai, to safeguard competition and supply chain stability.

In other news, ANA Cargo supported the repatriation of historic Ainu artefacts from Berlin’s Ethnologisches Museum to Japan. The items, some originally shown at the 1873 Vienna Expo, were flown from Frankfurt to New Chitose using ANA’s 'Prio Art' service for delicate cargo. The transport supported an exhibition at the Hokkaido National Ainu Museum, highlighting ANA’s role in cultural as well as commercial air logistics. (ah)
