Anemoi and partners launch rotor sail design study
Anemoi Marine Technologies has joined forces with Hafnia, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), and DNV in a new joint development project to advance rotor sail integration for future vessel designs. The initiative focuses on the safe and efficient implementation of wind-assisted propulsion systems, aiming to enhance vessel energy efficiency and support compliance with global decarbonisation targets.
Engineering studies will assess layout, electrical systems, and potential EEDI and EEXI improvements. DNV is overseeing the approval in principle process, and GSI is providing technical documentation. "This partnership helps unlock the full potential of rotor sails as a cost-effective way to reduce emissions," said Anemoi’s Nick Contopoulos. As regulatory pressure mounts, wind propulsion is emerging as a scalable solution for sustainable shipping. (ah)
