Aqaba complies with environmental standards
Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) has received the 'Port Environmental Review System' certification (Pers) from the European Sea Ports Organisation (Espo), becoming the first hub in the Middle East to join the EcoPorts network. The recognition highlights ACT’s adoption of international environmental practices and compliance with global standards.
The certification followed a rigorous audit assessing environmental policies, risk analysis, legal compliance and resource allocation, with more than 64 pieces of evidence submitted. Efforts to protect the marine and land environment were also reviewed.
“We're very proud to receive Pers certification from the European Sea Ports Organisation,” said Harald Nijhof, chief executive officer of ACT. “As the first port in the Middle East to join the EcoPorts network, we reaffirm our responsibility to lead by example in shaping a more sustainable future for our region and beyond.”
The award supports ACT’s goal of becoming a sustainable logistics hub.
