Artificial intelligence for Bremenports

The Oslebshauser Lock has been securing sea cargo handling in Bremen’s industrial port on the right bank of the Weser River for more than 110 years. Now it is being digitalised. The Ihatec (innovative port technologies) funding programme financed by the German federal government has played its part.

With the implementation of the AI-based "Tide2Use" assistance system, the necessary water level in the harbour basin will be balanced in a new energy-efficient way, allowing for energy savings of up to 20% or 170,000 kWh per operation. This makes it much easier for ships to arrive and depart.

The industrial port on the right bank of the Weser handles around 50% of the seaborne cargo volumes of the Bremen-Stadt port group. (sh)
