Astral completes first in-house 'C check' in Kenya
Nairobi-based Astral Aviation has successfully completed a heavy 'C check' on one of its Boeing B767-200 freighters (5Y-SNL) at its Kenyan facilities. The inspection, carried out in May and June, marks a milestone for the carrier as it was conducted entirely by Astral’s own engineering team.
A 'C check' is amongst the most complex levels of aircraft maintenance, involving detailed inspections, system tests and component overhauls to ensure full airworthiness. Until now, African operators have largely relied on overseas MRO providers for such work. Astral says the step reduces aircraft downtime, builds self-reliance and strengthens operational resilience.
"This achievement reflects the expertise and dedication of our engineers and sets a new standard for aviation maintenance in Africa," the airline stated. Astral operates a fleet of freighters serving intra-African and international cargo routes. (ah)
