Asunción and Miami airports become "sisters"

The Miami-Dade aviation department and Paraguay’s civil aviation authority have signed a sister airports agreement between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Asunción Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU), establishing their commitment to assist each other in improving their cargo and passenger operations by exchanging information regarding planned infrastructure developments, air service development and marketing research.

Following a trade mission to Paraguay in 2019, which included MIA director and CEO Lester Sola and Port Miami director and CEO Juan Kuryla, both sides agreed to work on creating Miami-Asunción air service and to draft sister airport and seaport agreements.

Both agreements were approved in October 2020, and Eastern Airlines began two weekly B767 flights in January 2021. (ah)
