Atlas Air opens up freighter future

Atlas Air has prevailed in an arbitration case against the union that represents its pilots. The 26 August 2019 arbitration decision affirms that the merger provisions of the collective bargaining agreement apply in connection with the acquisition of Southern Air in 2016.

It also affirms the company’s position that the union has been in violation of the existing CBA by refusing to follow the merger provisions for a new joint collective bargaining agreement and by failing to present an integrated pilot seniority list to the company.

In another move, the global provider of outsourced aircraft and aviation operating services landed two B747-8F aircraft in Sydney, where Atlas Air will operate them between Australia, China and the USA on behalf of Qantas. Each aircraft offers 20% more freight capacity and space for seven extra cargo pallets compared to the B747-400F previously used by the Australian airline. (ah)
