                        Baltimore: more railfreight services
After the devastating bridge collapse in Baltimore, USA, freight transport is increasingly being shifted from ship to rail.
As a public-private partner of the Maryland DOT and the Maryland Port Administration, Ports America Chesapeake is intensifying its intermodal partnerships with Norfolk Southern Railway at the Port of Baltimore. To mitigate temporary service disruption, the US class I railway has introduced a dedicated rail offering to divert export cargo and return Baltimore-bound imports for release.
Additional rail services to move freight between Baltimore to New York and New Jersey will begin this week, Ports America said. Further options are also in evaluation. (ben)
