Bangladesh gets 20 broad gauge locomotives

Indian Railways has handed over 20 Broad Gauge locomotives to Bangladesh Railway. The new units are expected to increase the volume of passenger and freight train operations in Bangladesh.

Trade between the two countries via rail has seen consistent growth with the interchange of close to 100 cargo trains per month. Since 2020, permission has been given to operate parcel container rakes.

Furthermore, a new option for the transport of geo-synthetic bags has just been launched, and three parcel trains have been sent from Gujarat, India.

Indian Railways is also helping to strengthen rail connectivity across the border. As of now, five broad gauge connections are operational and work on two more cross border rail links are in progress and are likely to be completed and commissioned shortly. (ben)
