Barcelona Maersk's hub for southwest Europe

Maersk recently opened a logistics centre in Barcelona. The new building, a facility of almost 8,200 sqm, will provide logistics services for the Iberian Peninsula and the south of France. Amongst others, it features an 11 m high storage area and 39 loading docks "which makes it a flagship for transfer operations in Barcelona", as the press release said.

The building includes energy generating solar panels and electric vehicle chargers. The warehouse is part of Cilsa's new building projects within the ZAL Port (+350,000 sqm), an industrial area of +920,000 sqm that will be part of a greater logistics park specifically designed for the storage, management distribution and transportation of cargo.

Diego Perdones, MD for southwest Europe and Maghreb at Maersk, explained: “Our focus is mainly on the deconsolidation of imported goods for their subsequent distribution both in Spain and Portugal as well as the south of France.” (sh)
