Berthing works in Jaxport about to finish


The project of berth enhancements in the port of Jacksonville, Florida, Jaxport, continues to make progress. The latest phase of a total investment of USD 109 million for enhancing the existing SSA Jacksonville container terminal at the port’s Blount Island marine terminal.

 

An additional 220 linear m of newly rebuilt deepwater berthing space is set to be complete in December 2020. The final phase of the project, another 220 linear m, is anticipated to be finished by the end of 2021.

 

In the end, the container terminal will feature two reconstructed 366 m-long container berths able to handle two post-Panamax vessels at the same time. The federal project to deepen the Jacksonville shipping channel to a depth of 14.5 m is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2022. (cd)
