Beyond (east of) Munich: Japanese buy Cargo-Partner

The deal was signed on 12 May 2023: Japanese stock-listed Nippon Express Holdings (NX), which is also the parent company of Nippon Express, APC, Franco Vago and others, reached an agreement with the Austrian Cargo-Partner Group Holding and its subsidiaries Multi Transport und Logistik Holding, Safer Overseas Transport Holding, Cargo-Partner GND, and Cargo-Partner US Holdings, to acquire the shares of their multiple subsidiaries.

After having started operations with only five employees at Vienna airport in 1983, Stefan Krauter (right) developed the company almost completely organically to now 4,000 employees in 40 countries and achieved a turnover of EUR 2.06 billion EUR in 2022 (only two years after first exceeding EUR 1 billion).

Krauter had already passed on the baton to his management and now has also handed over ownership to his "ideal successor" NX: "They will benefit from our strong and extensive network in Central and Eastern Europe that complements NX’s existing network in an ideal way, and Cargo-Partner will jump several leagues in the Intra-Asian and Trans-Pacific trade lanes."
