BGL and ver.di say "no" to opening EU road freight market

Two German trade bodies -the Federal Association of Road Haulage, Logistics and Disposal (BGL) and the United Service Union (ver.di) – have joined forces to take political action against the EU Commission’s plans to further liberalise access to the European Union’s freight transport market and the cabotage regulations. The two associations are concerned that the planned liberalisation will have enormous negative effects on the working and living conditions of professional drivers in Europe, as well as promoting unfair competition. The two organisations are of the opinion that the first move is to consolidate the market and implement a level playing field between EU member states. Only then will it make sense to liberalise the cabotage regulations. (ben)
