Bi-mode freight locos reach Bristol

The first two 99-class locomotives have been delivered to the port of Bristol, marking the start of deliveries in a 30-unit programme for Beacon Rail and GB Railfreight.

Built by Stadler and based on the 'Eurodual' locomotive concept, the bi-mode units can run on both electrified and non-electrified lines.

With 6,000 kW of power and 500 kN of tractive effort, the 99-class locomotives can travel at 120 km/h. After testing in Leicester they'll enter service by the end of 2025. The remainder of the fleet will follow by 2026. (js)
