Boost for railfreight
Railfreight operators Ferrotramviaria, For Fer, Hupac, Medlog Italia, Medway Italia, Mercitalia Logistics (FS Italiane Group), Rail Cargo Carrier Italia and Rail Traction have joined forces to form Fermerci.
With their cooperation, the companies aim to increase railfreight traffic on the Italian networks by 50% by 2030 and double the modal share by 2050 compared to 2019.
Currently, railfreight holds a market share of 11% in Italy, which is well below the European average of 20%. In July, Fermerci intends to present a catalogue of measures to strengthen rail freight transport. President of the association is Clemente Carta, member of the board of FS Italiana. (ben)
