British player snaps up unaccompanied transport

UK-based Culina Group, which specialises in the transport of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), is taking over International Road Ferry (IRF). The price of the transaction has not been disclosed.

IRF has offices in Rotterdam, Grubbenvorst (Venlo), Felixstowe, and Thetford, and provides unaccompanied transport of full and partial loads between Great Britain, the Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland.

“International Road Ferry and Culina Group are complementary businesses,” said Thomas van Mourik, CEO of Culina Group. After the acquisition, IRF will continue to operate as usual and will be integrated into Culina Group’s Stobart Intermodal division, led by Arthur Koutstaal as managing director.

Raff Hustinx, managing director of Stobart Europe, will assist with finance and reporting. Culina Group has an overall turnover of about GBP 2.2 billion, employs a work staff of about 22,000 people and uses a fleet of about 5,000 vehicles.

The group includes businesses such as Great Bear, Stobart, iForce, The Pallet Network, Logistics People, Fowler Welch, CML, Morgan McLernon, IPS, MMiD, and Warrens. In an earlier stage, IRF sold its Polish trucking activities to Boekestijn Transport. (sh)
