Bronka geared up and raring to go

The first stage of equipping the deepwater port of Bronka (Russia) ended with the recent installation of a Liebherr mobile harbour crane. The hoisting equipment, an LHM 800 with a capacity of up to 308 t and a 64 m outreach, will be used for handling heavylifts at the container and ro-ro terminals.

Bronka currently has four Liebherr STS P167 L (WS) container gantry cranes and ten RTG cranes built by Konecranes of Finland. The cranes can stack one-over-five standard containers and have a lifting capacity of 50 t, or 65 t as in a twin lift operation.

The port of Bronka, near St Petersburg, comprises two terminals plus a logistics centre. The 107 ha container terminal offers five berths along 1.2 km long quays. The 57 ha ro-ro terminal sports a 710 m long quay capable of handling three ships simultaneously.

At the first stage of construction, handling capacity of the container terminal totals 1,450,000 teu per year. A first-stage water depth of 14.4 m enables the port to handle post-panamax vessels.
