Brussels' bridge in the making

The repair work on the deck of the Buda Bridge can finally begin now that the legal experts have finished their inspection. A boat hit the bridge one month ago, making it impossible for it to operate.

The Buda Bridge, owned by the Port of Brussels which ensures its daily operations, is located at the northern entrance to the inland port. It is a lifting bridge with an air draft of 33 m which, in normal times, allows accessibility to the maritime outer port 24/7.

First works to restore navigation began on 2 January 2023 and were completed on 6 January 2023 with the removal of the bridge deck. The Port of Brussels, a regional company, manages 14 km of waterways and 6 km of quays and handled 7.1 million t in 2021. (sh)
