Building a new rail hub in Hungary

HHLA intermodal company Metrans is building another rail terminal in Hungary to expand its transport services along the Adriatic corridor and towards southern and south-eastern Europe. HHLA and the Hungarian government have signed an agreement to this effect.

The hub terminal will be built in Zalaegerszeg, which is located on the transport axis to the Adriatic ports of Trieste, Koper and Rijeka. The foundations will be laid in autumn this year. The first section of the facility is intended to go into operation as early as 2023. The total investment of over EUR 40 million includes a EUR 11 million grant from Hungarian institutions.

Mentrans' entire European intermodal network now comprises 17 of its own and other associated terminals which are also a key component in the New Silk Road. (ben)
