Canada to further improve rail safety

The Canadian government intends to invest CAD 25 million (EUR 16 million) over three years in order to upgrade the country’s railway system.

This investment will support 165 new projects and initiatives that will increase safety and Canadians’ confidence at grade crossings and along rail lines. The projects include safety improvements on rail property, the use of innovative technologies, research and studies as well as the closures of grade crossings that present safety concerns, the government said.

AUD 85 million (EUR 55 million) have already been invested in the form of grants and contributions over the past four years. (ben)
