Captured carbon logistics node for Sweden

The feasibility study of the Nice project – Norvik Infrastructure CCS East Sweden – has demonstrated the viability of establishing a logistics node for captured carbon dioxide at Stockholm Norvik Port. This node will serve as a central point for carbon dioxide transports from various emitters in Eastern Sweden, providing an effective means for intermediate storage and subsequent shipment.

The port's existing infrastructure supports potential expansions necessary for handling carbon dioxide logistics, making it a key player in meeting regional and national climate objectives, including Sweden's target for net zero emissions by 2045.

The project involves multiple stakeholders including Stockholm Exergi, Mälarenergi, and Vattenfall, aiming to facilitate significant CCS initiatives in the east and the centre of the country. Ports of Stockholm will lead the project, focusing on further design and planning to advance towards investment decisions and operational starts. (pb)
